About this book

This is a story about love, unexpected decisions, personal tragedy, hope and how one person's life can change in ways nobody ever imagined.

The story centres on a young woman named Mary Mafinga, whose life takes an unexpected direction just when she is preparing to get married.

Understanding the story

Mary lives in Mapambu, a fictional district in Zambia. Her father, Mr John Mafinga, works as a secondary school teacher. Mary is preparing to marry a young man named Owen.

Everything appears to be moving towards marriage, but something unexpected happens.

Mary runs away from the marriage she was preparing for.

The book introduces another young man, Derrick, whom Mary considers the true love of her life.

However, Derrick experiences a terrible tragedy. He loses his hand during a street attack, an incident that could have seriously affected his future and opportunities.

But his story does not end there.

News of Derrick's tragedy spreads on social media, eventually reaching an American philanthropist who decides to help him.

The philanthropist arranges for Derrick to have his hand restored and offers him an opportunity to work in the United States.

Suddenly, Derrick's life changes dramatically. So does Mary's life, and even the lives of their parents back in Mapambu.
