About the Author

I am Rachel Banda, a retired professional secretary, mother of seven, and grandmother of fourteen. I was born and raised in Zambia, hailing from Petauke and currently residing in Kabulonga, Lusaka.

Background and Education

I was born on 20 May 1957 in Kitwe. My education began at Mutende Lower Primary School and continued at Kawama Upper Primary School before completing my secondary education at Mindolo Girls Secondary School. In 1975, I undertook National Service training at Masaiti Camp and later pursued a secretarial course in London, United Kingdom.

Writing Inspiration

I am inspired by Zambian lived experiences and cultural heritage. My fiction blends real-life events with imagination to address societal issues while celebrating Zambia’s traditions.

Challenges and Growth

Publishing challenges, high production costs, and limited local book markets have tested my resilience. Nevertheless, constructive feedback continues to motivate my literary journey.

Personal Interests

In my free time, I enjoy baking and tailoring, while remaining committed to family and creative writing.
